Follow Her Around

i had a one bedroom apartment with a mattress on the floor
tv dinners, plastic dishes, there was nothing that i wanted for
any time i took a notion i followed it right through the door
one of those notions led me to her and i wasn’t the same anymore

now i follow her around

she has a devil of a temper, she’s as gentle as a little child
she has a drum beat like no other and i do my best to march in time
going no place in particular, to the movies, through the checkout line
she’s the kind that’s always on the go and i’m glad to be along for the ride

they say some folks can tell directions following the sun or the moon or the wind
and the wise men followed a star in the sky all the way to bethlehem
i don’t have much sense of direction but my exquisite taste makes up for it
so i just follow her around and i think she’s starting to get used to it
